Diesel Fuel Lubricity Comparison Test
Test #1

Fuel Type:     Winter diesel fuel              Fuel Additive:    None
Mix Ratio:     None                              Bearing life:       6 seconds

Test #2
Fuel Type:    Winter diesel fuel               Fuel Additive:     Power Service

Mix Ratio:    1oz. per 3.12 gallon3         Bearing life:        7 seconds

Test #3
Fuel Type:    Winter diesel fuel               Fuel Additive:     CA - 40

Mix Ratio:    1 oz. per 20 gallons            Bearing life:        21 seconds

Test #4
Fuel Type:   Winter diesel fuel                Fuel Additive:     Soybean Oil

Mix Ratio:   1 pint per 5 gallons             Bearing life:        12 seconds

Soy bean oil has 12.8% less BTUs per lb. than diesel fuel. (Operator
may notice loss of power)  Has poor low temperature properties and
contains triglycerides which are likely to cause combustion chamber
and injector nozzle fouling.

Test conditions:

Test bearings were soaked in winter blend diesel fuel
(15 ppm. sulfur) mixed with the additives for 24 hours
per sample. The tests were completed with 26 lbs of
pressure on the rotating bearing that was half
submerged in the test medium.

CA-40 in John Deere Tractors

Tractor 1:    1997 John Deere 8200 pulling an Amity 8-22 Beet Harvester

12% reduction of fuel consumption

Tractor 2:    1997 John Deere 8100 pulling a 12-22 Beet Track Topper

20% reduction in fuel consumption

Tractor 3:    2004 John Deere 9420 pulling a 730 B DMI

14% reduction in fuel consumption

Testing done by Jason Seigert and Paul Kozojed of “Seigert Farms” of Hillsboro ND in October of 2006

All tests were reproduced three times not using CA-40 in the fuel, resulting in a return to normal fuel consumption.  Returning CA-40 to the fuel consistently showed a reduction in fuel consumption.
